COLOR

COLOR

September offered the hundreds-of-miles expanse
Of the Colorado River rafting, Lee’s
Ferry through the Canyon to Lake Mead:
An endless museum of Monet exuberance–

Mile-high temples, towers, ramparts, the hues
Rioting, shapes eternally shifting, with infinite
Shadow shades of geologic symphony,
Where the tick of a clock 1s a million years in review.

In October our scope is Atlantic Ocean to Green
Mountains; no raft, but a car or bike, and around us
Not rocks, but maple and beech and oak, to astound us
In equal prodigious explosion of colors, a scene

That glows in sunshine and mist and rain, and consents
To autumn’s annual radiant evanescence.
