CONNECTIONS
This morning at quarter to four we heard a trio
Of sounds. The muezzin in the minaret
Started it off with wailing chansonette.
Our neighbors’ peacocks picked up the idea
And scrawked a prompt and feral antiphon.
And last our pompous bantam rooster crowed.
It seemed a simple sequential episode;
We heard a unified phenomenon.
But maybe they were each distinct results
Of other hidden causes. The universe
Comprises trillions of bindings, for better for worse,
Of suggestions, synapses, semantic miracles.
“Only connect,” said Forster. Everything does,
And infinite threads are transcendently numinous .
