BABY WEIGHT

Come, Chanont, and sit for a bit on my knee.
It’s one of ten billion. hinges we humans use
To walk and dance and kick with as we choose.
Today it’s doing its thing agreeably.

Just holding you up off the ground, so I can feel
Your silk-smooth skin resting against my arm
And register your growing weight and charm.
How can the act of holding a baby yield

Such strength to the holder? Yet from the drape of your body,
The serener look of your face, I surely sense
The magic transfer-of-power experience.
Our fibers resonate to one dyadic

Rhythm, both of us stronger, both for a time
Close to the warm pulse of the heart sublime.
